To help faculty and staff celebrate National Employee Health and Fitness month in May, LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program, has a series of events planned to get the Duke community feeling healthy.

Beginning this week, Duke employees can join in LIVE FOR LIFE's "May'd to Move," initiative, which features nearly a dozen free activities from group walk sessions to yoga.

"Being physically active doesn't have to take up a lot of time and you don't always need to hit the gym to feel the benefits," said Jacqueline McMillan, fitness program manager with LIVE FOR LIFE. "Our quick-and-easy events will help employees fit fitness into their day."

Events are spread across Duke hospitals and campus, and faculty and staff are welcome to participate in as many events as they’d like. Employees need only RSVP for each program through this online form.

Here are the May'd to Move events:

  • May 7, 9 a.m. - Duke Regional yoga and stretch break in private dining room C in the cafeteria.
  • May 7, 5:30 p.m. - Duke Regional yoga and stretch break in private dining room C in the cafeteria.
  • May 13, noon - Duke Regional walk to meet outside by employee parking on Olympic Avenue.
  • May 13, 5:45 p.m. - Duke East Campus yoga on lawn by Broad Street-Perry Street intersection.
  • May 16, noon - Duke Raleigh walk. Will meet outside the fitness center.
  • May 16, 12:30 p.m. - Duke Raleigh walk. Will meet outside the fitness center.
  • May 20, 8 a.m. - PRMO walk to meet at security front desk.
  • May 21, noon - Duke West Campus walk. Will meet outside the Trent Semans Center.
  • May 28, 8 a.m. - Duke Raleigh morning yoga in the fitness center upstairs classroom.
  • May 28, 1:30 p.m. - Duke Raleigh yoga in the fitness center upstairs classroom.
  • May 28, 5:45 p.m. - Duke Raleigh strength class in the fitness center.

Location details will be sent by email to those who register. Each yoga session will run 30 minutes and each walk will be 20 minutes to easily fit it before, during or after work.

In addition to these free events, faculty and staff can join the Wilson and Brodie recreation centers' Faculty and Staff Preview Day on Sat., May 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. All Duke employees can show their valid DukeCard, sign a waiver and try out Wilson and Brodie recreation centers during that time.
