Childcare Center to Close Early Due to Water Main Break

Homes, businesses along Swift Avenue without water Monday morning

City of Durham crews continue to work to repair a water main break near Duke University Road and Swift Avenue, but the work is not expected to impact the water supply for homes and businesses in the area.  Updated: 11:15 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 The Little School at Duke will close early today due to a city water main break that has shut down water to buildings in the area. Teachers and administrators for the school are in the process of contacting all the families for the 150 children at the childcare facility.  According to Mary Swanson, director for The Little School at Duke, the childcare facility is not allowed to operate without water to wash hands, flush toilets, prepare food, or wash dishes. "We apologize for this inconvenience and will send families additional updates as we receive information from the City of Durham," she said.  Duke officials continue to work with the City of Durham to address the problem and restore water to the homes and businesses in the Swift Avenue area.
