A leading conservative public intellectual will discuss the federal debt, the political brinksmanship involving it and its effects on American democracy in a public lecture at 4:30 p.m. in Zener Auditorium, 130 Sociology-Psychology Building.
Christopher DeMuth is a distinguished fellow at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C., and former president of the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research. He worked on urban affairs and environmental policy in the Nixon Administration and in the Office of Management and Budget under President Ronald Reagan, where he helped lead the administration's deregulation initiatives.
His talk "Debt, Demography and Democracy" will present an analysis of the debt issue and how political rhetoric and policy debates obscure the issue.
The talk is co-sponsored by the Program in American Values and Institutions, The PPE Program, The Political Science Department, and the School of Public Policy, and the History of Political Economy Program.
