Class is back in session. About 100 students came back early to participate in a series of "Winter Forum" seminars on innovative approaches to education. The events at Duke's Center for Child and Family Policy included remarks by two former North Carolina governors.

The Duke community experienced a loss last month with the death of philosophy professor Ben Ward. Ward was a longtime adviser to the Pitchforks a cappella group and, as a faculty in residence, a friend to many students. A service of remembrance will be held January 18th at 3 p.m. in Duke Chapel.

On January 19th, Duke will commemorate the legacy of Martin Luther King with a program in the Chapel, including a keynote address by NAACP president Ben Jealous.

Let's talk about sex ... or not. A new Duke Medicine study found that less than two thirds of doctors and teenage patients talk about sex during annual check ups.

Finally, David Pizarro arrives on campus this semester to study ... disgust. Pizarro is this semester's Nannerl Keohane Distinguished Visiting Professor. He will teach a course on moral psychology that will meet on both the Duke and UNC campuses.
