Live Now: Duke Faculty Live Tweet During State of the Union

Using Twitter, Duke faculty members will provide real-time commentary on President Obama's "State of the Union" address, which begins at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Follow their remarks with the hashtag #DukeChat.

Bill Adair, creator of PolitiFact and a professor of journalism at the Sanford School of Public Policy, describes how his team fact-checks the State of the Union.

Some of the topics Obama is expected to address include income inequality, the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, immigration reform and what actions he can take as president without legislation from Congress.

Professors scheduled to participate in the online conversation include J. Cameron Carter, associate professor of systematic theology and black church studies at the Divinity School; William "Sandy" Darity, a professor of economics, public policy and African and African-American studies; Bruce Jentleson, a professor of public policy and political science; Jonas Monast, director of the climate and energy program at the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions; and Ebrahim Moosa, professor of religious and Islamic studies.

James Todd, video manager in Duke's Office of News and Communications, will moderate the Twitter chat. Other members of the Duke community are welcome, and participants are asked to adhere to Duke's social media guidelines.

The chats provide an opportunity to have a "public classroom" about issues in real time. See highlights from a 2012 Duke chat on that year's State of the Union.
