Normal 0

The Duke University School of Medicine has added the Master of Management in Clinical Informatics (MMCi), previously launched in the Fuqua School of Business in 2010, to its education program.

This move aligns the medical curriculum with Duke University's leadership in clinical informatics research and clinical care in the Duke Medicine.  The one-year degree program, unusual in its interdisciplinary approach to health informatics management, draws upon Duke faculty expertise in health informatics, health care business management, education and clinical care. It will train students in the skills needed to meet the increasing demand for leaders who can manage the challenges created by the rapid expansion of health care technology.

The MMCi program seeks to prepare graduates for managerial and executive positions such as chief medical information officer, chief information officer, implementation manager, business analyst and management consultant. Graduates of the MMCi program will fill leadership roles in managing and evaluating health IT in a variety of settings including academia, government and industry.

Dr. Victor J. Dzau, president and CEO of Duke University Health System said, "The MMCi program is an important component of the Duke Medicine mission to transform medicine and health locally and globally.  The unique curriculum will produce much needed skills and will be seen as an innovative approach to meeting the workforce needs identified as critical by the National Coordinator for Health IT and the Institute of Medicine."

The MMCi program will continue to be a joint collaboration between Duke Medicine and the Fuqua School of Business.
