Duke's Bereavement Services will host a service of remembrance for staff and faculty from 3 pm. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 7.

The service, held in the Duke University Hospital Atrium Courtyard, is an opportunity for faculty, staff, students and visitors to reflect on the loss of co-workers, family members, friends and others. Bereavement services hosts the service of remembrance every spring and fall.

The names of Duke employees who have died during the past six months will be read aloud during the event. The ceremony will feature readings, poetry and music.

"Remembering is part of the process of grieving," said Joanna Parker, coordinator of Bereavement Services. "Gathering to remember together can be part of the healing process."

Managers and supervisors can call Parker at (919) 684-4750 to ensure that the names of late employees are included in the reading of names.

"The service focuses on Duke employees who have died, but we invite participants to also use the time to reflect on the loss of any friends, family or patients they've worked with as well," Parker said.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the lobby of Duke University Hospital.
