Campus Parking, Duke Bus Routes Adjust for Holidays [UPDATED]

Reduced bus service around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day

With students, faculty and staff away from campus during upcoming holiday breaks, Duke Parking and Transportation Services will adjust its transit schedule and parking lot availability during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

No transit services, including van services, will operate on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's Day.

Reduced bus service around Thanksgiving will begin Thursday, Nov. 28 with regular Health System service (H2, H6) resuming Friday, Nov. 29, along with limited C2 and LaSalle Loop service.

Below are the routes that will continue to run around Thanksgiving with some adjustments:

Wednesday, Nov. 27

Thursday, Nov. 28 - Thanksgiving

  • No Duke bus service

Friday, Nov. 29

Saturday, Nov. 30

Sunday, Dec. 1

  • C1 and C2 routes operate normally

The full Thanksgiving transit service schedule is here. There will be no service by Duke Vans on Thanksgiving.

For those parking on campus, parking is available at no charge in all patient and visitor areas of Duke garages on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29, including PG1, PG2, PG3 and PG4. Access will be comparable to usual weekend parking. Patient, visitor and employee parking will return to normal on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Parking offices will be closed on Nov. 28 and 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Winter break - UPDATED (12/23)

Adjustments will be made to bus schedules during winter break, which runs until Jan. 7. During that time, Hospital bus routes will maintain regular service; the C1 bus route won't be available and the C2 route will stop service daily at 9 p.m. No transit services, including van services, will operate on Christmas or New Year's Day and there will also be no weekend campus service until all routes return to their regular schedule Jan. 8. Parking at Duke around Christmas will also be adjusted, allowing for free parking in all patient and visitor areas of PG1, PG2 and PG3 from Dec. 22 to 25. From Dec. 26 to 28, PG1 and PG2 will resume normal permitted parking from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. PG3 will continue to be free. The Eye Center visitor parking area will require a fee throughout the winter holidays. Eye Center parking lots will follow the regular schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 23, Dec. 26 and 27, and will be open for free exit during observed holidays.

PG4 will have free parking between Dec. 22 through Jan. 1, except for times when special events occur. Fees will be charged during special events.

RDU Shuttle

The RDU shuttle will be available on Nov. 26 and Dec. 1 for holiday travel to/from the airport. Reservations can be made in advance on the Parking and Transportation Services website.
