Hearing Aid Discount Included in Vision Insurance

Online savings available through UnitedHealthcare

UnitedHealthcare, the vision insurance provider for staff and faculty as part of Duke's benefit package, is now offering a discount on hearing aids.

Employees and their dependents enrolled in Duke's optional vision insurance plan can purchase hearing aids for as low as $649. UnitedHealthcare offers the discounted pricing through hiHealthInnovations, an online hearing aid store. The benefit is immediately available to all current participants of Duke's vision insurance plan and will be offered to employees who enroll in the insurance plan for 2014.

"This is a valuable addition to the benefits package," said Saundra Daniels, benefits plan manager for Duke. "For those who need hearing aids and are comfortable purchasing them online, the savings can be substantial."

The average price of a digital hearing aid is about $1,500, and many medical insurance plans do not cover the cost for adults, according to the Hearing Loss Association of America.

To order a hearing aid, an employee can call 1-855-523-9355 or visit hiHealthInnovations.com and provide the results of a hearing test performed within the past year. Hearing professionals within the company review results and guide customers to a hearing aid that best suits their needs.

Duke employees can use the promotion code "myVision" to access the discounted pricing arranged through UnitedHealthcare. This promotion code offers an additional discount on the already reduced cost of the hearing aids.
