Inside the Scanner

ct scanner

Dr. William Richardson is pictured leading a patient-simulation during training on the new iCT surgical suite located in Duke Medicine Pavilion Sept. 30. The CT scanner is mounted on rails to the ceiling in a large bay between two operating rooms. An MRI machine is housed in a similar setup down the hall.

One example of how the pavilion's design will improve patient care, the new scanner will enable patients to stay in their respective OR instead of being moved during surgery to undergo critical scans. It's expected to be used for the first time on patients next week.
