Duke in Pictures: Duke Hospital Dedicates Interfaith Chapel

Avani Desai and Priyanka Purohit perform a classical Indian dance July 31 at the dedication ceremony for the new interfaith chapel in the Duke Medicine Pavilion, which opened last month.  Representatives from the Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu faiths were in attendance to help open the chapel.  Duke Medicine officials said the chapel was important to help make the hospital a welcoming place for patients of all faith.

The ceremony received national attention.  A spokesman for the Universal Society of Hinduism praised Duke for opening the chapel and called on other hospitals to follow Duke's example.

Below, participants celebrate at the end of the ceremony.  In the middle of the photo, Rev. Choro Carla Antonaccio shakes hands with Muslim Campus Chaplain Abdullah Antepli.
