President Richard H. Brodhead and Chancellor for Health Affairs Victor J. Dzau will honor Teamwork Award and Diversity Award winners and their nominators at a luncheon on Nov. 5.

"Duke is the incredible institution that it is today because of the people who work here and their willingness to put into action the values we hold dear," said Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for administration. "These awards are one way to shine a light on the efforts that make Duke so special."

Professors Paula D. McClain and Kerry L. Haynie, co-directors of the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity and Gender in the Social Sciences, jointly received the Diversity Award last year.

"Duke is a rich environment because of its commitment to diversity," McClain said. "Kerry and I were honored to have been nominated for an award that represents this commitment."

The 2012 Teamwork Award was given to the Maestro Care Ambulatory Group for implementing the new electronic health record system in 33 primary care clinics in July 2012.

All nominees receive a presentation-quality binder with nominations and letters of recommendation. Winners receive monetary prizes and a plaque or engraved glass bowl.

"It is hard to overestimate the positive message that being nominated sends," said Denise Evans, executive director of Staff and Family Programs, which helps coordinate the awards. "People are always pleased to know that their colleagues and peers recognize and value their positive contributions."
