After taking a break for the Fourth of July holiday, the Duke Farmers Market will begin its new schedule July 12, occurring every other Friday through Oct. 4.

The market will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 12, and every other Friday after. As new crops begin to be harvested, market visitors can expect to find produce like squash, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots and more from up to a dozen farmers and vendors.

"The summer and early fall is always an exciting time for our shoppers who are looking for new fruits and vegetables to try," said Diana Monroe, a health education specialist with LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program that sponsors the market. "The produce you find is often fresh from the farm that morning, so it's easy to taste the difference compared to a grocery store."

The market is between the Bryan Research and Nanaline H. Duke buildings off Research Drive. Click here for a map.

Along with new produce, Duke community members can expect a series of special guests and food samples.

In August, the Refectory and NOSH at Joe Rae Cafe will host food demonstrations with free samples Pleasant Bee, a Raleigh-based company that produces honey, will be at the market on Aug. 9. The market will also host a food cook-off challenge in September with samples and recipes for visitors. Duke's annual Harvest Festival will take place Oct. 4 to close out the season.
