Police Search Great Hall Following Bomb Threat

Police have lead in investigation, hope to make an arrest

Durham Police received an anonymous call this morning indicating that a bomb was in the Great Hall.

Police and fire personnel responded and immediately began a search of the building that included a bomb-sniffing dog. The building was deemed safe shortly afterward.

"This call followed the same pattern the call earlier this week that turned out to be a hoax," said Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for administration and Duke's emergency coordinator. "Police did not judge this threat as credible, so we did not activate our full alert notification process, but first responders were on site immediately and searched the building thoroughly to ensure the safety of our community."

Cavanaugh said that police had a lead in the investigation and hope to identify the person responsible for making the threats.

"Police are hopeful that the investigation will lead to an arrest," he said.
