Congratulations to all the high school seniors who just got accepted to Duke. The university offered admission to about twenty-nine hundred talented applicants. You guys will love this place.

Speaking of the class of 2017 ... next year's freshmen have their first homework assignment. Over the summer they will read the novel "Let the Great World Spin" about New York City in the Seventies, and discuss it during orientation week.

A new Duke study identifies genetic risk factors that may affect whether a teenager becomes a lifelong heavy smoker. However, the researchers found genetics did not determine which teens begin smoking at all.

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival kicks off April 4. Opening night features the film "Gideon's Army" about three young public defense attorneys in the Deep South. Tickets are available on the festival website.
