Duke Making Nonprofit Management Tools More Accessible

Courses slated to be held in Charlotte area in May

To meet a growing demand for nonprofit managers with a variety of professionals skills and expertise, the Duke University Nonprofit Management Program is for the first time offering its eight-day intensive track program in Charlotte.

Participants who participate May 6-9 & May 20-23 on the Charlotte campus of Gardner-Webb University will earn the Duke University Certificate in Nonprofit Management and 7.2 CEUs through Duke’s Office of Continuing Studies.

Classes include nonprofit board development and governance, sustainable strategic planning for nonprofits, financial planning, grant writing/management and compliance, planning and evaluation, nonprofit sector fundraising, risk management for nonprofits and human resources development.

The Program provides affordable, practical, and accessible training to those working in and with the nonprofit sector – whether they are paid staff, volunteers, directors, board members, philanthropists, members of faith-based communities, or those transitioning from the private sector.  For additional information and to register before April 30, call 919-684-6259 or visit www.learnmore.duke.edu/nonprofit.

The program, which is also offered four times a year in Durham and annually in Danville, Va., attracts a range of students, from a Williamston, N.C., pastor who wanted help in effectively guiding his board, to executives with the YMCA, the seventh largest nonprofit in the nation. While some students are pursuing “encore careers” in this sector, a growing number are recent college graduates.

A free information session is scheduled at Gardner-Webb’s Charlotte campus on Thursday, March 21, from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., in classroom #101 (use North parking lot).  For additional info, call 919-668-6742 or email ilb4@duke.edu.
