Duke in Pictures: Winter Forum

Beaufort conferences has students engage scholars on the future of the oceans

Duke students received a three day intensive look at ocean ecology and conservation policy as part of Duke University's 2013 Winter Forum, "Blue Devils and the Deep Blue Sea: Can We Rescue the Oceans?" this week at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort.

Hosted by the Nicholas School of the Environment, the Winter Forum presented talks by some of the world's leading marine scientists, policy experts and conservationists to explore timely issues relating to the management of Earth's oceans, and the vital role they play in human and environmental health.

Students also had plenty of opportunity for lab and field research.  Above, students captain a research boat off of Beaufort.  Below, students collect data on water from a nearby marsh.
