The deadline for nominating individuals for the Diversity and Teamwork awards at Duke is Sept. 14.

These annual awards recognize faculty and staff from Duke University and Duke University Health System for teamwork and diversity, two of Duke's Guiding Principles. The winners receive monetary prizes and a plaque or engraved bowl to commemorate the award. All teams and individuals nominated also receive a presentation-quality binder with nominations and letters of recommendation.

"The simple act of nominating someone is a powerful message of recognition," said Denise Evans, director of staff and family programs, which helps coordinate the program. "We know that people appreciate it when their colleagues publicly recognize and recommend their work."

Duke will select one winner from the University and one winner from the Health System for each award. Winners and nominators are honored at a luncheon with President Richard H. Brodhead and Chancellor for Health Affairs Victor J. Dzau in November.

Nomination forms for the Teamwork Award and the Diversity Award are available on the Human Resources website and in the Staff and Family Programs office at 705 Broad St. in Durham. Nominations should include letters of support from co-workers, supervisors or managers and/or the head of the department.

Submit all paperwork by Sept. 14 to Staff and Family Programs, Box 90520, 705 Broad St., Room 201, or fax forms to (919) 681-8427.
