Faculty, staff and students are invited to show their support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community at Duke by participating in the annual N.C. PrideFest Day on Sept. 29.

Duke is hosting the festival and parade on East Campus, and the Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Life at Duke is again creating a float for the parade. This will be the 28th year of the event.

"An all-volunteer staff from Durham and the surrounding communities plans and coordinates the festivities each year with the help of our LGBT Center staff, Special Event Services and Duke Police," said Janie Long, director of the Center for LGBT Life at Duke. "It is truly a Duke-Durham collaboration that is a wonderful way to show the entire community that Duke University is LGBT affirmative."

At noon on Sept. 29, the Duke community is invited to meet on West Main Street across from Domino's Pizza to help decorate the float. The parade begins at 1 p.m.; the Duke community is invited to join students in riding the float or walking with it.

"Last year we had about 150 people involved with the float," Long said. "We invite everyone, including allies, to join with us again this year to show their support."
