Summer Is Here: Temps To Reach 102 This Week
Durham, NC - Temperatures this week are expected to hit 100 degrees by Friday and 102 on Saturday.
The spike in heat comes after the first half of June remained below historical averages, but the end of the month will bring typical summer heat.
"Tuesday will have a high around 80 and relative humidity will be super, super low, so it's going to feel amazing," said Brandon Locklear a lead forecaster with the National Weather Service's office in Raleigh. "We should enjoy it while we can because then it'll be right back to normal, hot days."
Locklear said the biggest issue with the coming heat will also be high humidity that could push the heat index as high as 105 degrees. Forecasts upcoming days include:
- Wednesday: sunny with a high near 87
- Thursday: sunny with a high near 95
- Friday: sunny with a high near 100
- Saturday: sunny with a high near 102
- Sunday: sunny with a high near 99
"We may have really high temperatures now, but by next week things may drop back to normal values of mostly around 90 degrees," Locklear said. "Just be aware that the most oppressive heat will be this weekend on Friday and Saturday."
