Durham, NC - Duke staff and faculty are invited to live jazz, reggae and soul music Friday, May 18, as part of Duke Appreciation's "Music on the Quad" festivities.

The event, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will feature a magician, caricaturist and refreshments, including ice cream bars, soft pretzels, funnel cake sticks and fruit. Nearby, employees can join Zumba or Tai Chi demonstrations.

Music on the Quad is one of several special activities that help recognize nearly 34,000 faculty and staff at Duke. It's an opportunity for faculty and staff to mingle with friends and colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere.

The forecast for Friday is sunny with a high near 76 degrees.

"Duke is such a big, busy place that I look forward to these kind of fun events as a way to meet up with people from other departments I don't get to see very often," said Nancy Strittholt, an infection prevention nurse at Duke University Hospital who has worked at Duke for almost two years. "And it's always great to get outside."
