Financial Fitness Week offers opportunities to recalculate your financial future.

Durham, NC - For the first time during Financial Fitness Week, Duke will offer webinars, webcasts and online presentations to make it more convenient for staff and faculty to get personal finance information.

The annual Financial Fitness Week kicks off May 21 with four live, interactive online webinars during which staff and faculty can submit questions in real time.

"Not everyone can get away from the workplace for a workshop," said Sylvester Hackney, associate director of benefits for Duke. "We hope that using technology in this way will make it easier for people to engage in conversations with our vendors to increase their financial knowledge."

The four, free webinars on May 21 are:

  • How Am I Doing? Understanding and Achieving Your Long-term Financial Goals, by TIAA-CREF, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Retirement Income Strategies, by VALIC, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Market Overview, by Vanguard, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Getting on the Right Path With Your Workplace Savings, by Fidelity, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Employees must register online to receive information about how to connect to the webinar.

In addition to the four webinars, Duke will provide a live webcast of the four-hour "Retirement Planning Workshop" from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 23. This workshop covers critical issues such as determining how much savings is needed for retirement, choosing health insurance during retirement, understanding Social Security rules and tips on choosing a financial advisor and estate planning.

Staff and faculty can also tune in any time to a host of online presentations on the Financial Fitness Week website. These three- to 10-minute videos and slide presentations from Duke's retirement vendors contain information about saving for retirement at various stages of life, including explorations of how to manage money after retirement.

The presentations will remain on the Duke Human Resources website after Financial Fitness Week.

Visit the Financial Fitness Week website for a full schedule of Financial Fitness Week events, both online and in person.
