Duke University President Richard Brodhead and Duke Islamic
Studies Center director Gilbert Merkx joined faculty, students and staff in
welcoming Ambassador of Kuwait Salem Al-Sabah to Duke at a reception held at
the John Hope Franklin Center.
The event was sponsored by the Asian & Middle East
Studies Center and the Duke Islamic Studies Center. Following the reception the
ambassador delivered a response to University of North Carolina professor Carl
Ernst's talk, "The Global Significance of Arabic Language and Literature."
On Friday, Ambassador Al-Sabah will give a lecture on the
progression of Kuwaiti-U.S. relations at 10 a.m. in 201 Flowers.
