Free Events At Duke This Week: Comics, More

Activities include a concert by the Duke Chorale and talk by a graphic novelist

This week's picks from the Working@Duke staff for five free things to do at Duke include Parking and Transportation Services' events about the WeCar car-sharing service and free public bus pass, as well as other activities around campus.

Tuesday, March 13, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Several Duke organizations, including the Franklin Humanities Institute and Program in Arts of the Moving Image, will present "12th and Delaware," a documentary about pro-life and pro-choice advocates by Oscar nominees Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady. Following the screening, Ewing will host a question and answer session. Smith Warehouse, Bay 4, C105.

Tuesday, March 13, 8 to 9:30 p.m.

The Duke Chorale, directed by Rodney Wynkoop, presents music from its spring break tour of Florida. The show will feature works by Handel, Bach, Byrd, Mozart, Tschesnokoff, Whitacre and Sarah Hopkins's "Past Life Melodies" with harmonic singing. Duke Chapel.

Wednesday, March 14, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Duke Parking and Transportation Services and WeCar representatives host "WeCar Wednesdays," a weekly event where Duke community members can ask questions about Duke's car-sharing program, get an international drivers license verified and make suggestions to improve the program. Visitors can also sign up for WeCar. Bryan Center Plaza.

Thursday, March 15, 6 to 8 p.m.

A representative from Parking and Transportation Services will be distributing the GoPass, Duke's pass that allows Duke students, faculty and staff to ride local and regional bus lines for free. Thursday, March 15, 7 to 8 p.m.

Join comic fans and hear from John Porcellino, an award winning graphic novelist who's been writing, drawing, and publishing minicomics, comics and graphic novels for more than 25 years. His comics collection, "Diary of a Mosquito Abatement Man," won a 2005 Ignatz Award. During his visit to Duke, Porcellino will present an illustrated reading and discuss his work with Rob Clough, who serves as comics critic at the Comics Journal and on his own blog, High-Low Comics.
