A Double Bill of Solo Acts Featuring Colin Stetson and Tyondai Braxton
Durham, NC - Duke Performances presents a double bill of solo performances by two rising stars of the independent music scene saxophonist Colin Stetson and guitarist Tyondai Braxton on Friday, March 23, at 8 pm at Motorco Music Hall in downtown Durham.
Guitarist and composer Tyondai Braxton's 2009 acclaimed debut solo release Central Market, which builds off of the ideas Braxton has explored over his 10-year career. In spring of 2011, Central Market was featured in the Lincoln Center's Tullyscope Festival. Before Central Market, Braxton gained notoriety for his work with the band Battles on their 2007 album, Mirrored.
Bass saxophonist Colin Stetson has made a name for himself as both a soloist and a sideman. His 2011 album, New History of Warfare Vol. 2: Judges, was shortlisted for the Polaris Prize that year. Stetson is also a member of Arcade Fire and Bon Iver and has played as a sideman with Tom Waits, LCD Soundsystem, TV on the Radio and others.
This double bill offers both performers presenting full-length sets.
This concert is part of Duke PerformanceS' ongoing initiative to set performances in Durham venues beyond Duke's campus, dP Downtown. This season Duke Performances sets six concerts at venues including the Pinhook, Casbah Durham, and Motorco. An extension of work begun with off campus listening session events, this initiative is aimed at bringing the Duke and Durham communities together around the arts.
Tickets available by contacting the University Box Office by phone at 684-4444 or in person in the top level of Duke's Bryan Center on West Campus, Monday to Friday, 11 am to 6 pm. Tickets also available online. Tickets will also be available at the door starting at 7 pm.
