The newly opened Duke Cancer Center is a state-of-the-art
facility for patient care and clinical research. Adding to the welcoming and
comforting atmosphere of the center are hundreds of original works by North
Carolina artists.

The collection includes paintings, drawings, photography,
sculpture, pottery and other media, all selected by a committee from the Duke
Cancer Institute, the Nasher Museum and the Duke arts community.

Carolyn Carpenter, associate dean of the Duke Cancer
Institute and a member of the art selection committee, explains how the
collection reflects Duke's ongoing commitment to its home state.
