How Do You Beat Burnout?
Durham, NC -
"Working@Duke" is developing a story about beating burnout, and we'd love to hear your stories and suggestions.
One Duke department has a Wii room to help build teamwork. Another group has scheduled "Office Olympic Games." And for some staff and faculty, professional conferences and classes fan their work passions.
How about you?
Use the comment tab atop the story, or send an email to working@duke.edu to share how you beat burnout and stay energized at work - or in your career.
We'll do a random drawing of submissions and award a Duke Today coffee mug to a staff or faculty member who writes in.
We encourage Duke faculty, staff and students to share ideas, collaborate and discuss issues on Duke Today. To post a comment, you must log-in with your Duke NetID and password. Any comments or materials that are inappropriate, disrespectful or violate Duke policies will be deleted. These may include statements or materials that:
- promote commercial enterprises;
- sell, or solicit offers to sell, goods or services for personal gain;
- promote a political candidate or political party; or
- violate policies regarding personal, proprietary or protected health information.

The work I do every day energizes me tremendously, serving teams and leaders as a consultant and coach. However, I renew myself in a different way each year in choosing to take a 8-10 day vacation to places like Iceland or Poland or Australia. I meet people who've had different experiences growing up (under communism, for example!), see sights such as castles, kangaroos or volcanos and eat unusual foods. It's a treat!Kathryn Helene
