Duke in Pictures: Winning Women

gala620.jpg

Associate Athletic Director Jacki Silar leads a toast at the Duke Women's Gala reception and dinner in Scharf Hall on Saturday night. The celebration marked two key milestones in women's education at Duke: The 40th anniversary of women's varsity athletics and the combination of The Woman's College and Trinity College.

Organized by the Duke Alumni Association and Duke Athletics, the program connected alumnae with current students to discuss current trends in women's education and athletics and their connection to past events. More than 20 other alumnae, students and other members of the Duke community spoke, including former women's basketball standouts Lindsey Harding and Abby Waner to President Richard H. Brodhead.

Below, Eleanor Smeal, WC'61, president of The Feminist Majority and Nancy Hogshead-Makar, '86, a law professor and senior director of advocacy for the Women's Sports Foundation, speak at a luncheon on the topic "Living out the Legacy of Title IX."
