Kaplan CEO, N.C. Community College CFO, Discuss Higher Education

The event, at noon Friday, Feb. 24, is free and open to the public

Andrew S. Rosen, chairman and CEO of Kaplan Inc., and Jennifer Haygood, CFO for the N.C. Community College System, will discuss the future of higher education in a panel discussion at noon on Friday, Feb. 24, at Duke University.

The talk, held in Room 153, Rubenstein Hall, is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, and a light lunch will be served to those who RSVP to lauren.forbes@duke.edu.

The discussion, "Retooling Higher Education: Are Colleges Preparing the Workers the Economy Needs?" also includes Lee Baker, dean of academic affairs for Duke's Trinity College, and is moderated by Jacob Vigdor, professor of public policy and economics who researches education policy.

Rosen has written a new book, "Change.edu: Rebooting for the New Talent Economy," which examines questions such as the role of educational institutions in shaping policy and if there are better ways to help college dropouts complete their degrees. Rosen says the United States once had a high percentage of the population with college degrees but has now slipped to 16th in the world. Panelists will discuss how to meet these disparate educational needs.

This event is sponsored by the Sanford School of Public Policy.
