Traffic Advisory: Boiler Delivery Saturday On West Campus

Traffic may be slowed while a large boiler and crane are delivered to Coal Pile Drive

Motorists traveling along the north part of West Campus should expect delays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday as Facilities Management delivers a crane and 80,000-pound steam boiler to the West Campus Steam Plant. The delivery is part of Duke's renovations of the historic plant.

Starting at about 7 a.m., large trucks with pieces of the 30-feet tall crane will slowly travel from Morreene Road  to Erwin Road , before turning onto Research Drive  and parking on Coal Pile Drive. Following the delivery of the crane, the boiler will be brought on campus to the steam plant. Road crew members will be stationed along the route to support safe movement of the delivery truck and general traffic.

Facilities will work to place the new boiler into the steam plant Saturday, Jan. 14, to Monday, Jan. 16. Beginning at about 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, the crane will be broken down and taken off campus.
