The Joint is Jumpin', Saturday

joint620.jpg

Duke Music is taking the campus back to the 1940s this
weekend to revisit the height of the swing era.

The Duke Jazz Ensemble, directed by John Brown, and
Duke Opera Workshop, directed by Susan Dunn, team up for "The Joint is
Jumping", a multimedia concert that includes period newsreels and
commercials and featuring the music of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Benny
Goodman and others.  When the music
starts grooving, students in the Duke Swing Dance Club, wearing period outfits,
will take to the stage to dance.

The free public concert will be held at 8 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 19, in Reynolds Industries Theater in the Bryan Center.  For more information, call 660-333 or
go to the Department of Music website.
