Name: Steve Arrowood

Position: Manager of the Pharmacy Department's Sterile Preparations Clean Room

Years at Duke: 8 years

What I do at Duke is: I manage the are of the pharmacy where we prepare all doses that requires sterile compounding for patients in Duke University Hospital (North). We handle things like making antibiotics , electrolyte infusions, chemotherapy, total parenteral nutrition, and others.

If I had $5 million, I would: Probably not do anything glamorous. I'd pay my mortgage off, buy my wife a new car, make sure there's money for my kids' college tuition and probably take a nice trip. I'd love to visit Italy. I'd also make donations to my church and alma matter, UNC.

My first ever job was: I worked at a 100-bed hospital in Lincolnton, N.C. in 1992. I worked in the kitchen washing dishes.

My dream job is: I'd love to be a travel writer for golf courses where you get to play and write about courses all over the world. There's a long list of places I'd like to play - Augusta National, Pine Valley Golf Club, Pebble Beach and more. Those are the places I either can't get on to play or can't afford to play.

What I love about Duke is: The variety of things and people you see. Being in a research hospital, you get to see a lot of interesting things you don't see anywhere else like clinical trials or experimental therapies.

When I'm not at work, I like to: I have two kids so they take up a fair amount of time. My son is 5 years old, so he's old enough to do a lot of activities. I take him swimming and to play soccer. I also like to play golf.

If I could have one superpower, it would be: Time travel sounds interesting. I could jump around in time and see how things have changed or will change. Going back in time would be interesting because I could see how cultures were different.

Something most people don't know about me is: My wife and I were in college at same time but didn't start dating until a couple years after college. We both lived on the health sciences hall at UNC and all of us on the hall were pretty tight and kept in contact after school. We had a weekend reunion thing at Wrightsville Beach and that's when my wife and I met back up.

The skills I bring to my work: I started working as a technician when I was 16, so I have the benefit of having done this kind of thing for a while. I've been making IVs for almost 18 years.
