News Tip: World Series Players Should Set Tobacco-Free Example, Says Duke Sports Psychologist

With the World Series underway, four U.S. senators -- Dick Durbin, Frank Lautenberg, Richard Blumenthal and Tom Harkin -- have called on baseball players to forgo chewing tobacco during the Series.

Quote:

"Young baseball players all across America watch their heroes and emulate most everything they do. They wear their uniforms the same way, the same type of wristband and jewelry around their necks and imitate their behaviors.

"It goes without saying that a young baseball player is more likely to chew tobacco if their baseball hero is doing it as well. Therefore, these players should be more cognizant of the message they are sending.

"The problem is the players using tobacco are addicted to something that will very likely cause them to have cancer someday and can't quit."
