Farmers Market Ends Season With Harvest Festival

This Friday is the last day for this season's market

The Duke Farmers Market wraps up its six-month season this week with the market's annual "Harvest Festival."

Students, faculty and staff can stop by the market between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday to find fresh fruits, vegetables and other goods delivered that morning from local farmers and vendors. Visitors can also receive a free North Carolina apple and samples of pumpkin spice coffee.

"We're excited to end our market season with a bang and offer lots of great fall goods like eggplant, potatoes and more," said Diana Monroe , health education specialist with LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program that sponsors the market. "It's such a convenient way for everyone at Duke to find healthy food for their diet."

Among the highlights for this year's festival is a variety of squash and squash recipes at every tent. The market will also host a book signing with Diane Daniel , a Durham-based author who wrote "Farm Fresh North Carolina," the first guidebook of state farms, farmers' markets, wineries and more. Visitors can purchase a book at the event for $18, cash or check.
