Under sunny skies and cooler than normal temperatures, move-in occurred Tuesday under what President Richard H. Brodhead said was "one of the most beautiful days for move-in in recent memory."

The cars started arriving on East Campus just before the 8:30 a.m. scheduled opening of several residence halls.  There were the usual traffic back-ups around East Campus, but the assistance of First-Year Advisory Counselors and other students got the new arrivals into the residence halls quickly and kept the flow of cars moving regularly throughout the morning.

Despite the surprise tremors from an earthquake, the day went well and kicked off a week of orientation events.  Wednesday, at 11 a.m., Brodhead, Admissions Director Christoph Guttentag and others will welcome the first-year class at the annual convocation in Duke Chapel.  The graduate and professional school convocation will be held at 4 p.m.  Both events will be streamed live on Duke Today in the Gallery section.
