The Duke Medicine Orchestra will conduct auditions for placement and acceptance of new members for the 2011-12 season on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Aug. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The auditions take place in the Biddle Music Building on East Campus.

This will be the second year for the orchestra, which is open to any faculty, staff, students who are associated with Duke Medicine. Spouses and significant others may also audition.

Musicians interested in auditioning should prepare a two- to three-minute piece and bring a copy of the piece and any associated score to give to the conductor, Verena Mosenbichler-Bryant.

"Most of the people who auditioned last year have several years of orchestral experience," said Olivia Woodford, director of the Health Arts Network at Duke. "This year we are looking in particular for more strings and horns, but everyone is welcome to audition."

The orchestra rehearses on Sunday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and performs at least twice a year near the end of each semester. The orchestra is supported by the Health Arts Network at Duke (HAND), the Multicultural Resource Center at Duke Medical School and the Duke University Music Department.
