Comments Sought in Regular Review of Dean Nancy Andrews

Michael Merson to chair committee in review of School of Medicine dean

Regular reviews of school deans are conducted in the fourth
year of their five-year term by a committee formed by the Executive Committee
of the Academic Council. Such a committee has been appointed to review School
of Medicine Dean Nancy Andrews, who has served in her post since 2007.

Michael Merson professor of medicine and director of the
Duke Global Health Institute, will serve as committee chair. Other committee
members include: Huntington Willard, professor and director of the Institute of
Genome Sciences and Policy, who will serve as co-chair; Ruth Anderson,
professor of nursing; Dr. Anna Mae Diehl, professor of medicine; Dr. Mariano
Garcia-Blanco, professor of medicine.; Dr. Carl Ravin, professor of radiology;
Stephen Smith Duke University Health System administration, and Christina
Williams, professor and chair of psychology and neuroscience.

The committee will submit a confidential report to Provost
Peter Lange and Chancellor for Health Affairs Dr. Victor Dzau.

An important part of the review process is the gathering of
opinion from the university's many constituencies. The committee invites you to
share your thoughts, preferably by email or letter. Communication should
include the nature of your interactions with Dean Andrews so that the committee
can understand the context of the comments as fully as possible. The committee
will discuss responses, and a summary will be included in the written report to
the provost. All comments are confidential.

The committee would appreciate receiving comments by the end
of July.  The committee's report
will be submitted by the end of September.
