Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a tree fell on a car traveling on Campus Drive, according to Duke University Police Chief John Dailey. One is an employee and the other is an invited guest of a Duke program. One was hospitalized.

The injured individuals were in the car when the tree fell near the Graduate School at 2127 Campus Drive.  An eyewitness said he heard a loud crack and saw the tree sway.  The car was traveling along Campus Drive toward East Campus and started to slow.  After a second crack the tree fell on the front of the car, smashing the front window. Emergency crews were on scene shortly after 3 p.m. with the victims, Dailey said. Campus Drive was blocked for more than 30 minutes as facilities staff removed the tree.  Traffic along Campus Drive was restored by 5 p.m.
