Three Duke Officials Reappointed
Three Duke Officials Reappointed
Durham, NC - Three Duke University officials have been reappointed to five-year terms, Provost Peter Lange announced Friday.
Senior Duke officials are reviewed in the fourth year of their appointments. Review committees that include faculty and administrators consider comments from the Duke community on matters including the individual's effectiveness, strengths and weaknesses, and leadership.
Those granted new five-year terms are:
-- Scott Lindroth, who has been reappointed as vice provost for the arts, beginning July 1. Lindroth, who joined the Duke faculty in 1990, is a composer whose work has centered on instrumental and vocal media, including compositions for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He also has composed music for dance, theater and video.
-- Tim Profeta, who has been reappointed as director of the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, beginning July 1. The institute, founded in 2005, has grown into a major non-partisan participant in key debates by providing sound understanding of complex environmental issues. Prior to his arrival at Duke, Profeta served as counsel for the environment to U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut.
-- Anne Yoder, who has been reappointed as director of the Lemur Center, beginning July 1, 2011. Yoder, who is also a professor of biology and professor of biological anthropology and anatomy, focuses her research on genetic techniques and geospatial analysis to investigate Madagascar, where lemurs evolved. The Duke Lemur Center has the world's largest collection of endangered primates.
"These three reviews unequivocally demonstrated the quality of leadership we enjoy at Duke," Lange said. "Scott, Tim and Anne have each brought energy, vision and creativity to their positions, thereby advancing the quality of their units and the university's strategic ambitions."
