"A Culinary Approach to Negro History" Exhibit

The Medical Center Library is currently exhibiting "A Culinary Approach to Negro History," a collection of African-American cookbooks that have been used to recount history to a wider audience.

The cookbooks displayed in the exhibit were part of an early effort to preserve African-American history in addition to what was being passed along through oral traditions. The books provided a way for African-Americans of either gender to uphold their traditions when it was difficult for them to publish a history book.

The examples on display come from the collection of Hattie Vines, Information and Education Services Librarian, and will remain on exhibit in the lower lobby of the Medical Center Library through the end of April.
