Discounts for Duke Showdown with UConn

Employees can get half-price tickets

Faculty and staff looking to catch a top-10 basketball battle Monday can do so at a 50 percent discount.

Duke Athletics is offering employees discounted tickets to see the seventh-ranked women's basketball team host the defending NCAA national champions from the University of Connecticut at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 in Cameron Indoor Stadium. On Saturday, UConn won its 54th consecutive game -- one of the longest winning streaks in any sport in NCAA history -- with an 88-47 defeat of then No. 7 North Carolina.

Employees can buy tickets for $5 each, which is half the $10 face value. The discounted tickets are general admission, which allows fans to sit courtside on bleachers or in the second-level seats behind each baseline.

"Duke employees are so committed and passionate for our program," said coach Joanne P. McCallie. "When they attend games the atmosphere and energy in Cameron is electric. We share in their enthusiasm and play off their fight and resolve."

Duke is 3-4 all-time against UConn, including two wins in the last four matchups. The two teams played last in 2007 at the St. Thomas Paradise Jam Tournament, when UConn beat Duke 74-48. Duke last beat UConn in 2006 in the NCAA Tournament 63-61 in overtime.

To order tickets, call 681-2583 or stop by the ticket office in Cameron indoor Stadium from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Employees must present their DukeCard ID.
