Durham, NC - Duke trustee emerita Mary D.B.T. Semans addresses more than 600 people who came to honor her at the "Vanguards and Visionaries" gala Saturday night at the Nasher Museum of Art.

The event commemorated Semans, a trustee emerita who, with her late husband Dr. James H. Semans, has transformed the arts at Duke, in Durham and farther afield. The Nasher museum's great hall bears her name; the museum directorship and an annual lecture series are named for her and her late husband.

Proceeds from the event will support educational programs at the Nasher museum.
