Durham, NC - Two Duke undergraduate students reported being robbed early Tuesday a block off East Campus.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at 1:27 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Markham Avenue.

The students, who are 21 and 22 years old, were sitting in a parked car talking with the door open when two men approached, said John Dailey, police chief for the Duke University Police Department.

One suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money, Dailey said. Both fled on foot toward Buchanan Boulevard. No arrests have been made

Both suspects are described as 5-feet 8-inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds and wearing dark jeans and hooded sweatshirts.

Dailey said patrols have increased in the area and encouraged Duke community members to practice personal safety.

"We ask students, faculty and staff to continue to be vigilant about using safety precautions to help deter crimes of opportunity," Dailey said.

The Durham Police Department is investigating the robbery. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Durham Police at (919) 560-4427; Duke Police at (919) 684-2444, or Durham CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200.
