Duke Department Appreciation Day Recognizes Employees' Support of Duke Football

Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis and the Duke Blue Devils look to build on their victory over North Carolina State when they play the Maryland Terrapins at home on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Duke Football hopes to build on the momentum of its decisive 49-28 win over North Carolina State with a full house at Wallace Wade Stadium for its next game, and is offering special ticket deals for Duke employees and departments to be part of this season's success.

As part of its appreciation for employee fan support, Duke Football is offering a special Duke department rate to the Oct. 24 game against the Maryland Terrapins.

"Duke Department Appreciation Day" tickets are $15 each for a minimum of 20 tickets. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. at Wallace Wade Stadium. Regular price for single game tickets is $40.

Duke is now 1-1 in the ACC and 3-3 on the season with three remaining home football games and a chance to become bowl-eligible this season.

"With the team's truly convincing win over N.C. State, Coach David Cutcliffe has begun to put his stamp on this program," said Kevin White, vice president and Athletics Director.

"All of Duke's employees are a major part of this effort, and their presence in the stands on game day truly impacts the atmosphere and energy for the team."

Departments that purchase discounted tickets will receive recognition on the stadium's video scoreboard; a chance to win a game jersey; and a football signed by Cutcliffe.

In addition to the Duke Department Appreciation Day special, the Duke Employee Pass is available for a discount on reserved season tickets to the remaining home football games. For $199, employees can purchase the football pass and receive four tickets to each of the remaining home games -- at a total cost of $16.58 per ticket.

For the Blue Devils, success on the field has helped spur plenty of positive attention off of it. Alice McKenzie, administrative manager for the Office of Major Gifts, said that she hears more people talking about how excited they are about the team this year.

McKenzie, a season ticket holder, has been a regular at Duke home games for five years and said the best part about the Blue Devil's success is it's been a long time coming.

"We've been watching them for so many years and you know they're working so hard and for it all to come together now is just great -- especially for this year's seniors."

Jerry Mansell, a low vision coordinator for the Duke Eye Center, said that after Duke's 49-28 win at North Carolina State, he feels like the Blue Devils have as good of a chance as ever to win any game they play in.

"We've been spoiled by having great basketball teams for so long," said Mansell, also a season ticket holder. "Now we have something really exciting to root for with the football team, too."
