Durham, NC - Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for Duke Human Resources, will speak at a Duke Administrative Women's Network event Oct. 30. His talk will focus on human resources strategies that Duke has deployed during these difficult budget times.

The meeting is open to all faculty and staff. It will take place in the Duke South Amphitheater (near the food court) from noon to 1 p.m, with time set aside for questions from the audience.

Cavanaugh came to Duke in February 2009 from the University of Florida, where he held the position of Senior Vice President for Administration with responsibilities for Human Resources, CFO, Business Affairs, Police and Safety, Information Technology and Internal Audit.

At Duke, Cavanaugh's strategic responsibilities include the areas of benefits, retirement, workers' compensation, staffing, labor and employee relations, human resources information center, temporary staffing, employee health, compensation, learning and organization development and employee communication. He also serves as the University's Deputy Emergency Coordinator.

In less than a year at Duke, Cavanaugh has played an integral role in helping Duke devise cost-savings strategies to help close an estimated $125 million budget shortfall by 2011.

Faculty and staff may e-mail questions for Cavanaugh in advance to Pam Riley (pamriley@duke.edu). The questions will be answered without reference to personal information.
