DURHAM, N.C. - On Friday, Oct. 23, Duke University and the Duke Alumni Association will pay tribute to alumni who have lost their lives in service to their country since World War II.

On that date, Duke will dedicate a plaque that will be inscribed with the names of alumni who died in battle during the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and the Iraq War, Sterly Wilder, associate vice president for alumni affairs at Duke, said in an email to the Duke community. "The names of alumni who died in active duty since World War II will also be included," Wilder added.

Dedication ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature remarks by U.S. Secretary of Veteran Affairs Eric Shinseki, a 1976 Duke graduate, and Duke President Richard H. Brodhead.

A wall in the Memorial Quad, the area between Duke Chapel and the Divinity School, currently commemorates alumni who died during World War II. The new plaque will also be located in the Memorial Quad.

More details on the ceremony, including the names of the Duke alumni killed in war, are available at http://memorial.dukealumni.com.
