Durham, NC - President Richard H. Brodhead poses with Durham's Carter Charter Community School Singers after the group's performance at the Sept. 23 reception honoring donors to last year's Doing Good in the Neighborhood employee giving campaign.
The reception took place at the Doris Duke Center in Duke Gardens and featured remarks by President Richard Brodhead, Lloyd Michener, chairman of Duke's Department of Community and Family Medicine, and Vice President for Durham and Regional Affairs Phail Wynn Jr.
Donors were also given the opportunity to hear from representatives of agencies which received contributions from the 2008 campaign, including: Joseph Henderson, founder of the Walltown Children's Theatre, a community theatre focused on young people; Dan Kimberg, a former Duke student and founder of Student U, a program for Durham Public School middle school students; Jackie Brown, CEO of the Durham Economic Resource Center, a job training and community resource center; and Drew Sawyer, principal of Rogers-Herr Middle School, one of the schools in the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership
The 2009 Doing Good in the Neighborhood campaign began on Sept. 3 and runs through the end of October. Donors may give to the United Way of the Greater Triangle or to community giving options supported by Duke University Health System or the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership.
