DURHAM, N.C. - Novelist Antonia Susan Byatt, better known as A.S. Byatt, will read from her work at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Gothic Reading Room at Perkins Library. The event is free and open to the public. Author of the Booker Prize-winning Possession: A Romance and Morpho Eugenia, both of which were made into films, Byatt is the William Blackburn Visiting Fiction Writer at Duke for the fall semester.

Considered by some to be one of the greatest postmodern novelists in Great Britain, Byatt was made a Dame of the British Empire in 1999 and received the German Toepfer Foundation's Shakespeare Prize for distinguished contributions to British culture in 2002. Her latest novel is The Children's Book.
