Highest Turnout in Over 30 Years for Duke Employee Art Show

Works go on exhibit Aug. 28

Duke employees, retirees and volunteers have submitted more than 200 entries for the 2009 Employee Art Show, making this year's program the largest ever at Duke.

All entries will be displayed in one of three exhibit areas between Aug. 28 and Oct. 4. Art show winners and professional artists will be featured in the Mars Gallery, located in the North Corridor of Duke Hospital. Intermediate and Amateur artists will also be featured in the Mars Gallery as well as the windows of the Bryan Center. A highlight to this year's show is the addition of ‘Youth' and ‘Teen' categories. The winning will be displayed in the Connector Gallery at the Eye Center. Entries represent a number of arts media which include crafts, photography, paintings and sculpture.

Health Arts Network at Duke (HAND), which provides literary, visual and performing arts to Duke staff, patients and their families, sponsors the art show.

The National Arts Program, co-sponsor of this year's show, was established in 1983 to identify, showcase, and reward the visual artistic talent in America. The program is targeting hospitals as one of the primary venues among its 85 venues throughout 44 states.
