Editor's Note:

A Duke student reported to the Durham Police Department that a man tried to abduct her in an apartment parking lot north of campus early Friday.

The female student told police that at about 2:30 a.m., she was walking in the parking lot of the Erwin Terrace, near its LaSalle Street entrance, when a pickup truck pulled up. A man got out of the vehicle and attempted to pull the student into the pickup.

The student fought with the man and screamed. A second student, who had been walking with the victim moments earlier, heard the scream and ran to assist her, prompting the man to flee.

The man, who was alone, was last seen driving a black pickup truck, possibly a four-door. The truck has a swoosh design on the back. He is described as a Hispanic male about 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Durham Police at 560-4600 or the Duke University Police at 684-2444.
